E.F. Beale, the Camel Corps and how we got here

In 1857, Lt. Edward Fitzgerald Beale of the Topographical Engineers was appointed by President James Buchanan to build the first interstate road through the heart of the new lands to California from Fort Defiance, New Mexico.
