The 5th annual BeneVet bowling tournament took place this weekend at Cliff Castle's Shake Rattle & Bowl. The event raises money to benefit the health needs of veterans in and around the Verde Valley. This year the BeneVet group plans on purchasing 2 special exercise/therapy bikes for $4,000, a new computer for the VA hospital library in Prescott as well as to pay for Nero-psyche website access for veterans who cannot afford the service. Prescott VA Hospital Rehab Coordinator Michelle Cramer has two big-ticket items on her wish list, a pressure mapping system for people in wheelchairs, carrying a $13,000 price tag, and $15,000 to convert their current Bioness muscle-stimulating machine to wireless. The group won't raise enough to meet those needs, but a portion of the money raised through the bowling event will be put aside for those future purchases. Organizers of the event, Nikki Miller and Mike Jacobson, were especially grateful to all the businesses and artisans who generously donated raffle items for the successful event.
