Gallery: Tree Trimming at Fort Verde State Park

Jeff Prince is the Off-Highway Vehicle Program Coordinator for Arizona State Parks; he is also a landscape designer who grew up learning the trade from his beloved grandfather. On Saturday, August 24, Prince visited Fort Verde State Park and brought his vast knowledge of native plants and tree species to share with the staff, volunteers and public. The Tree Trimming Workshop and talk focused primarily on proper tree pruning procedures but included tool safety, picking the correct species of trees and plants for a particular terrain and general landscaping advice. Invited by Park Manager Sheila Stubler to help sort out the viability of trees at the fort, as well as offer advice on the proper care of existing species, Prince recruited some of those in attendance to help prune many of the Mesquite trees that inhabit the property.
