The Inner Basin in the San Francisco Peaks is believed to have formed somewhere between 400,000 and 200,000 years ago when a violent eruption on a scale similar to that of the 1980 Mount St. Helen, causing a collapse of the volcano that had formed somewhere between 2 million and 400,000 years ago.
