Third black bear attack near Payson causes campers caution

Official believe drought could be causing encounters

After the second bear attack within a week (and the third within a month) in the Payson area, the Arizona Game & Fish Department continues to urge campers to be "bear aware."The family of Arizona's most recent bear attack victim is asking campers and outdoor recreationists to take precautions when camping outdoors in bear country. The male victim was attacked on June 24 while camping in the Ponderosa Campground east of Payson.
