Gallery: Relay For Life 2012

This year's Camp Verde Relay For Life kicked off on Friday evening at Sam Hammerstrom Football Field with a cancer survivor dinner, featuring speaker Steve Clark. Following a survivors lap around the track, and numerous speakers on the main stage, the many teams of participants took to the track for a long night of walking. The event raises money for the American Cancer Society's research, education, advocacy and patient services. Relay For Life has a special focus on survivors of cancer, but hundreds of luminaria memorializing those who were lost to the illness was a constant reminder that more needs to be done to discover effective treatment for the disease. KC's Family Tae Kwon Do raffled off a pig (the X-Team also performed for the crowd) to raise money; Dirty Verde Roller Derby held a mock derby demonstration; Aces and Eights provided music from the main stage; and many teams sold a variety of products and foodstuffs to raise extra cash for the cause.
