Letter: So, where is the Sanitary District map?

Editor:

I received the Voter Information Pamphlet today concerning the Sanitary District Vote.

After reading the pamphlet I called the Town Clerk and asked why a Map of the Sanitary District was not included in the pamphlet so we could all know what parts of town were included in the district. She said that it was a good idea to provide the map but someone in the city, state or ??? did not put it in the pamphlet.

I also asked why the pamphlet was not written in plain everyday English or Spanish instead of Gobbledygook from the Lawyers. She said that the city gave the pamphlet to the town lawyers to write and approve in accordance with state law.

In other words the lawyers don't want us to understand what is being asked of us so we will approve the ballet question without knowing what the real affects on our property taxes or monthly bills will or could be.

I was assured that because of my residence in Verde Lakes I am not in the district. However what is keep the town from adding Sanitary District Operation Costs to my property taxes. This possibility was mentioned in a previous story on this same subject in the Camp Verde Bugle. In which case I would be getting taxed for services I cannot use.

Once again the politics of Camp Verde leave a lot to be desired and we have no idea who is telling us the truth and who is lying (again) to us.

All this talk about the lack of a sewer district map, you would think that the Bugle would put on online and in the printed paper. Crazy talk, I know.

Is learning why one would support/ not support the measure "...political interference with ballot measures..."? Send him a map!

Ridiculous!

Mr. Coley, with all due respect, your editorial does not accurately reflect our conversation. I told you that a map had not been considered in the short time that we had to prepare this pamphlet, and that a map was really unnecessary because you would know if you were in the current District because you would be receiving a utility bill and/or paying property taxes.

I explained very clearly to you, that State and Federal laws PROHIBIT political interference with ballot measures, which is why the pamphlet does not list the benefits or risks that you felt should have been included. I also explained to you that our attorneys had to ensure that the information in the pamphlet was educational in nature and neither supported nor opposed the measure. The glory of our democracy is having the freedom to cast your vote as you see fit.

Finally, I referred you to various sources that would be able to help you to understand the information and who could answer any questions that you might have.

In all fairess, Mr. Coley, if you do not like the laws that dictate how information is explained to voters, you need to contact the U.S. Department of Justice instead of making and spreading false assumptions that Camp Verde citizens, volunteers, and leaders are dishonest because that is not true.

Deborah Barber, Town Clerk
