Letters: ISIS is not Islamic?
In his Wednesday night address President Obama stated, "ISIS is not Islamic." From the beginning of his administration, he and his team - including Congressional Democrats, have refused to pair the words terrorist and Islamist in the same sentence. Why is Mr. Obama so reluctant to honestly label the crisis confronting the world?

Letters: Not voting means no representation
History tells us that the American colonies rebelled against the tyranny of England for a variety of reasons. One of the great rallying cries was, "Taxation with representation!" To be sure, King George and Parliament consistently passed laws which added to the colonists' tax burden. The major complaint stemmed from the fact American colonists had no say in these unfair taxes and any other decisions passed down by the English government.

Letters: A little research makes college education affordable
Living in rural Arizona, many people believe that we miss what is going on state-wide. With all the available information, that is simply no longer true. We are in the loop and know what is going on.

Letters: How about training the helicopter pilots properly?
I am responding to the article "Helicopter Owner" from Aug. 29, 2014. There are several points that I feel should be addressed about the article as I am mentioned in it.

Letters: At what point are we at war?
It is sometimes said that it takes two to make an argument. Is the same true for war? In 1915 it took the sinking of the Lusitania, with 128 American lives. In 1941 it took the bombing of Pearl Harbor. In 2000 it took an attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Letters: Public records are public, even in Camp Verde
The costly fiasco now taking place in our town highlights the urgent need for a Human Resources Director for this town.

Letters: Despite recent rains, we are still in an extended drought
It is great that the Verde Valley has received as much rain as it has. That does not mean we can stop conserving water and our elected leaders can stop looking for ways to ensure a sustainable water supply in the future.

Letters: Jail is not the answer
A significantly disproportionate number of incarcerated people are mentally ill, some severely. Often their crimes are crimes of survival -- vagrancy, loitering, stealing food, panhandling. Do you know a studio apartment in Arizona costs 93 percent of an SSI or SSDI check --making housing unaffordable for adults living with serious mental illness who rely on SSI.

Letters: 'Share the Road' signs obviously don't mean anything
While acknowledging that I left town shortly after the death of the MS Ride cyclist, I must admit to being somewhat taken aback by the headline in Sunday (Aug 31) paper. Maybe I need an update or clarification as this hopefully only relates to any additional charges?

Letters: Why self control should be a part of family planning
Why self control should be a part of family planning.

I would agree with Desiree Perez in her "My Turn" column Friday 22nd that young people need to be better educated on the facts about an active sex life and the reality of the consequences. That taking responsibility for themselves is a huge step in the right direction and family support and communication is the best solution. So for the first half of the article, I could mostly agree.

Letters: Strange priorities in the White House
Just read an article that said the White House is re-evaluating the Dept. of Defense program that provides surplus military equipment to state and local law enforcement agencies.

Letters: Delayed executions too cruel?
Sometimes you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. A judge has ruled that California's death penalty is unconstitutional - too cruel. Why? Because they are not killing convicted murderers quickly enough.

Letters: Car wash a big help to Beaver Creek Transit
Beaver Creek Transit sponsored a fund-raiser carwash on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Montezuma-Rimrock Fire Station on Beaver Creek Road. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to participate in the event and contribute to the vehicle insurance payment.

Letters: Treat your dog as you'd like to be treated
Excellent article by Bill Helm, '5 things you may not know about Pit Bulls' Bugle, Aug. 10. Pit Bulls have been getting the rap for a number of years.

Letters: Helping hands at the cemetery
I just want to thank all the volunteers and supporters of the Clear Creek Cemetery. Just recently we have another supporter. North American Waste Systems. They found out that we could no longer get dump vouchers for hauling the trash from the cemetery and they stepped right up and are providing us with free trash service.

Letters: Statistics are only as reliable as the statistician
It looked like a call to arms; that is Gary LaMaster's letter to the editor Aug. 15. It is full of the usual drivel about how great everything is going under the Obama Administration and how much better off we are, than when he took office ... according to somebody's "statistics."

Letters: Whose failures?
In his letter of Aug. 13, Jim Barber describes what he considers the failures of President Obama. The problem is that, once again, Barber's ideology seems to get in the way of the facts.

The Camp Verde Community Library would like to send a special thanks out to Ashton Powell at Out of Africa, U.S. Forest Ranger Randy, Deputy Bowers and Claymore, Jan Grogan from the Camp Verde Department of Sewer and Sanitation, and the Verde Valley Stargazers for their time and participation in the Summer Reading Program.

Letters: No action in bicycle death is not justice
Far too often, when a bicyclist is killed by a motorist, the bicyclist is blamed. Even when the driver of the vehicle is the responsible party, the driver will frequently get off with a "slap on the wrist."

Letters: Obama failures confusing and dangerous
The President of the United States has three core duties. As Chief Executive Officer he is sworn to "take care that the Laws be faithfully executed." As President he determines America's foreign policy.
