Lean times for Meals on Wheels
VERDE VALLEY - Rising costs of food, packaging and transportation coupled with dwindling funding and a lack of volunteers are cooking up lean times for the local Meals-on-Wheels program.

"Currently, we have 28 volunteers delivering meals to home-bound senior citizens. We need 58," said Elaine Bremner, executive director of the Verde Valley Senior Center in Cottonwood.

Camp Verde school system saves 13.4 million gallons of water in single year
CAMP VERDE - Seven years ago the Camp Verde Unified School District installed an Aresenic Remidiation Water System. Between the 2013-2014 school year and the 2014-2015 school year, CVUSD saved 13.4 million gallons of water with the help of upgrades to time clocks, sprinkler heads, and more efficient toilets. Transportation Director Stacy Barker said it is all about making the school district look inviting to the public.

Preliminary budget, shared services OK'd for Montezuma-Rimrock Fire District
MONTEZUMA-RIMROCK - Montezuma-Rimrock Fire District met Friday morning with Fire Chief Terry Keller and approved their preliminary budget for fiscal year 2015-2016 along with other agenda items. With passing the budget, MRFD will now hold a public hearing on July 16, at 6 p.m. so the public is able to address the board with any concerns with the budget.

Operational Authority IGA approved for fire district

New indictment lists 23 felony charges against Seth Collins in 260 crash
Now, seven months later, Seth Collins has been indicted on 23 more counts stemming from the November accident. Collins was indicted Friday, June 12, and arraigned Monday, when he pleaded "not guilty" to the 23 new charges.

Those 23 charges include 12 counts of aggravated assault, two counts of endangerment, four counts of aggravated DUI, criminal damage, possession of methamphetamine, possession of diazepam, and two counts of paraphernalia.

Sheriff says woman likely drowned in canal
COTTONWOOD -- Preliminary findings by the Yavapai County Medical Examiner's Office indicates 23-year-old Jennifer Holgate of Prescott Valley died from an "apparent drowning and a drug overdose," according to a news release from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
