What direction, again?
How a road change came to be

Jon Hutchinson

CAMP VERDE -- Yavapai County Supervisors Monday agreed to change the name of a road section off Salt Mine Road that has caused confusion.

Vista Drive connects Salt Mine Road with Lincoln Drive. Years ago, the street was officially named South Vista Drive, even through it runs primarily from east to west, but where it connects with Lincoln Drive, the section from Lincoln Drive to Armetta Drive has also been named South Vista. The street was originally recorded as such in 1959.

The county addressing format requires a pre-direction to each street, so South Vista Drive becomes East South Vista Drive. But residents typically use one or the other direction, i.e. East Vista Drive or South Vista Drive. That's what has caused confusion

Emergency service providers ask the county to clarify the confusion by re-naming the section as Lincoln Road and eliminating any reference to South or East South Vista Drive, leaving only Vista Drive.

Citizens supported a single directional indicators and the supervisors changed the name officially Monday.
