Dead body discovered beside railroad tracks near Seligman

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office has joined the investigation into a death on the railroad tracks near Seligman.

The crew of a BNSF train spotted the body of a human male early in the morning Monday. BNSF officials notified YCSO at around 4:15 a.m. The body appeared to have been hit by an earlier train at the location, west of Seligman in the Peach Springs area.

Deputies are working with BNSF law enforcement in the investigation. Detectives from YCSO's Criminal Investigations Bureau were also called out and arrived early this morning to assist railroad officials.

Officials are in the process of verifying the identity of the body and attempting to establish the circumstances that led to the man's death.

Early Monday afternoon, the body was recovered and transported to the Yavapai County Medical Examiner for follow-up.

Railroad freight traffic in both directions were halted during the investigation. As of this afternoon, trains are moving through the area under caution.
