CAMP VERDE - A homicide on the Camp Verde Yavapai-Apache Reservation is the stuff of horror movies.

The details are spelled out in a complaint filed with the U.S. Magistrate in Flagstaff that charges Mario Chagolla Jr. with first-degree murder in the killing of Dwayne Beauty, a tribal member.

The court documents, submitted by an FBI special agent, reports that Dwayne Beauty, 40, had been reported missing. A tribal police officer learned that five men were at a home on Evans Street in Camp Verde drinking and playing cards June 16 before Beauty vanished.

The men included Dwayne Beauty and Mario Chagolla Jr.

According to the complaint filed in Federal Court, Chagolla Jr., 35, told one of the other men that he was going to "get that mark," referring to Beauty.

Later, Chagolla was in the kitchen with Beauty when he attacked him, according to the complaint. After Beauty fell to the ground, Chagolla Jr. reportedly begun kicking the man and Beauty eventually passed out.

Chagolla Jr. then is accused of using duct tape to tie Beauty's hands behind his back and then began stabbing him with a kitchen knife, only stopping when the knife broke on Beauty's head.

Others at the house claimed Chagolla Jr. left the Evans Street residence for a while, returning later with a circular saw. The report said the accused used that saw to cut off Beauty's head, hands and legs, reportedly holding up the head and yelling, "that's what you get for messing with somebody else's girl."

Chagolla Jr. told one of the others that he was going to take care of Beauty because he claimed that Beauty had killed his girlfriend, Kathy Englund, who had died several weeks earlier.

In an attempt to cover up the man's identity, Chagolla Jr. is said to have used pliers to pull out all of the dead man's teeth and then put the teeth and hands in a fire place to burn them up.

Chagolla Jr. reportedly told family members he had been involved in a murder and had burned the body at the Boot Hill home, where the family lived. Mario Chagolla Jr. occasionally stayed in a trailer on the property. His father told authorities he believed his son was involved in a homicide.

When the Marshal's Office came to the house, the man's father said his sister had complained the car smelled and worried there was a body in the trunk. Chagolla Jr. had claimed at first it was an elk, then he said it was a person he hit with the car.

According to the court document, investigators found teeth and human bone fragments in the wood stove at the Evans Street house. They also recovered bone fragments and a broken knife from a burn barrel at the Boot Hill house.

Chagolla Jr. originally was ordered held without bond in the Coconino County Jail, but was transferred to another facility Wednesday morning.

ORIGINAL STORY: Camp Verde reservation murder implicates non-tribal man

CAMP VERDE -- Police from three agencies converged on a home on Boothill Drive in Camp Verde early Thursday morning. The police action, involving the FBI, Camp Verde Marshal's Office and the Yavapai Apache Police, has been linked to the death of a Yavapai-Apache tribal member.

FBI Phoenix Media Coordinator Special Agent Manuel Johnson has identified a suspect, but the name of the person who was killed has not been identified.

Johnson said that 35-year-old Mario Chagolla Jr. has been arrested and a complaint alleging first-degree murder was filed with in the U.S. Magistrates Court in Flagstaff.

Chagolla Jr. is jailed in Flagstaff and held without bond.

The Camp Verde Marshal's Office assisted the FBI and the Yavapai Apache Nation police in the recovery of human remains at a home on Boothill Drive where Chagolla lives. The body was sent to the medical examiner for further investigation.

At about 5 a.m. Thursday, CV Marshal's Office deputies were dispatched to a report of suspicious activity at the Boothill Drive residence. Shortly afterward, it was determined the suspicious activity was part of an investigation of a murder that occurred in the jurisdiction of the Yavapai Apache Nation. At that time, the residence and scene was turned over to the FBI and the Yavapai Apache P.D.

If you bare witness to a vicious crime such as this, you will never rest. Mario Chagolla, Jr. Knew! What he was doing and so did everyone else in the house that night, or that morning, they all have nothing to live for there involved in all ways. Jurisdiction or not. One person was arrested. For the families, they lost a brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, someone who still had a lot to live for, if everyone in that house on Evans St. Was not always drunk or on drugs maybe this could've been prevented. Don't worry! Dewayne someone will break because you can't hide something this vicious for long. As for everyone else, it doesn't matter who is the most respected family in CV or MV, what matters is a life was taken, Now, everyone's SCARED..

This was an investigation that started with CVMO and when it was determined that the crime occurred on the Yavapai Apache Nation in Camp Verde then the jurisdiction for the investigation was YAPD's and because it was a murder the FBI takes over the investigation.

CVMO did a fine job and this was a joint agency investigation.

Special thanks to Deputy J. Bowers for catching the suspect and all others involved in this ongoing investigation.

If that is who you meant to be writing about, you should have been SPECIFIC. After all, the post and article was about JR. Use YOUR common sense if available.

@Mav Rick It should be obvious that I was speaking of Mario Chagolla Sr...How about using some common sense there. I was trying to make a point that there are some decent human being's affected by this heinous act and they deserve some respect, such as Chagolla Sr.

To Mav Rick,
Mario Chagolla Sr is a very good and decent man, and he has indeed done a lot for this community. Mario Chagolla Jr. is the one accused of this heinous crime. Please people lets not get Jr. and Sr. confused. I'm sure the Chagolla family is going through enough that they certainly don't need this kind of confusion making their lives any worse.
To everyone else,
Lets try to remember there is always more to a story than what is told. I'm sure events and facts have only been reported as they were learned. That doesn't mean that everything you read is true. Of course if Mr. Beauty was guilty of a murder himself he would have been or in the process of being brought to justice by law enforcement. I don't think the tribal police dropped the ball here or anywhere or lost touch with the community.

@ Camp Verde born and raised........
Well.......if he is not guilty then maybe he is a good man. However, if guilty of cutting someone up with a circular saw then I disagree with your description of him as a good man. Good with a knife and saw and fire perhaps. WOW!! Guess we will have to wait and see.

I among sooo many other tribal members-- really are in shock, disgust and like whaaat (?) While thinking HOW, WHY and FOR WHAT REASON.. Did this happen..

Most all of us in the Verde know either of these two men and know, this should have NOT happened-- "IF" it is TRUE about this being a revenge/ retaliation killing then, WHY wasn't Mr. Beauty put in jail? How does that say'n go-- You can run but you can't hide...

Does this mean that TRIBAL POLICE have LOST CONTACT with the community- I have been away from the rez now for 15 years and let me tell you "IF" you were to just LOOK then YOU WOULD HAVE had Dewayne B. locked up and prevented this horrible and gruesome event from happening.

I'm NOT pointing fingers OR putting blame on anyone just stating how I feel about this.

My heart goes out to both the Chagolla's and the Beauty's. Mario Chagolla is a good man and has done so much for the community and his wrestler's. No one deserves the death that Dwayne suffered I think everyone should focus on supporting both families during these tragic times and worry less on who is investigating this terrible act of violence. I'm sure that all that deserve to be brought to justice, will be. It may not happen in front of us, but ultimately, they will meet their maker for a final judgment day. Give love now to the families that have lost their sons.

To "I am confused" and Jerry Humphrey,
First of all "I am confused" nobody acted unprofessionally, this murder occured on Tribal/Federal land, the CVMO was called once it was discovered that Mr. Chagolla took remains to his parents home in CV. also, just for the record... FEDS have juristiction EVERYWHERE.
Jerry, our community concurs with the fact that these individuals did nothing to help Mr. Beauty and should be accountable. However, it is out of the Tribe's hands now (including YAPD) and is up to the acting authorities whether those individuals will be charged

How many other people witnessed this heinous act or had knowledge of it and did nothing? Even patiently waiting for the accused to leave the scene and return with a circular saw to complete the job. They are accessories to the murder and it seems to be not a problem with law enforcement because they are more concerned with who's jurisdiction it is and who stepped on who's toes. This is how they protect and serve? Think about it.

The article appears to imply that Ms. Englund was Mr. Chogolla's girlfriend... this is inaccurate, she was the girlfriend of another tribal member and passed away several months ago.
This is a terrible thing to have happend and our community is deeply affected as well as the families of all involved. Nobody should have their life taken by another. My prayers are for healing for all involved and all touched by this tragedy.
