CAMP VERDE - Once again, Christmas will come a bit early in Camp Verde.
This Saturday, Dec. 10, the Town of Camp Verde has the day set aside to celebrate the Christmas season.
The party starts at Fort Verde State Historic Park at 11 a.m. when the park will host a Victorian wreath and ornament workshop, until 2 p.m. The workshop is a chance for kids to learn how families and soldiers assigned to Fort Verde decked their halls in the 1800s.
Items made at the workshop will adorn the state park during the holiday season.
The annual Christmas Bazaar, held in the community center on Hollamon Street, begins at noon. The bazaar is an opportunity to buy decorations and other seasonal accoutrements from local craft vendors. It will be open from noon to 8 p.m.
At 5 p.m., in the gazebo, the Town of Camp Verde will celebrates its 25th anniversary with free hot chocolate and cupcakes. It will also be an opportunity to say hi to some of Camp Verde's past council members as well as a mayor or two.
The Christmas Light Parade on Main Street, featuring all lighted floats from local clubs, organizations and businesses, begins at 6 p.m.
After the parade, Santa arrives at community Center, giving children an opportunity to make their wishes known and the parents an opportunity to pick up some more Christmas accoutrements.
The Town of Camp Verde is also sponsoring a Christmas Lighting contest. First place is worth a $100 gift certificate to Bashas'. Second place is worth $50 and third $35.
Anyone can nominate a neighbor or friend or some nice place you happened to drive by. Get the address into the Parks and Recreation Department, (928) 567-0535, by 6 p.m. on Dec. 14.
Contestants must have their lights on from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, to be judged. The Parks and Recreation Department will publish a list of the contestants in the local paper so the public can make a night of driving around looking at the lights.
On Dec. 16 and 17, fort Verde will host candlelight tours, both evenings from 5:30 to 8:30. Reenactors dressed in period clothing will provide guided tours of the old buildings. Free hot chocolate and refreshments will be served.

Looking forward to the light parade. Hoping Camp Verde has placed restrictions on the large contruction equipment that has been in the last 2 parades. I don't believe they are safe for a small town parade and it is very concerning with small children.
