Accused Army deserter arrested in Cottonwood

COTTONWOOD -- About 2 a.m. Saturday, Cottonwood Police got a call of suspicious activity in the alley behind the Circle K at 10 S. Main St.

As the officer arrived, he spotted two people sitting on wall drinking beer. After advising the subjects on the laws pertaining to drinking in public, the officer ran a records check on the subjects.

During the check, it was discovered that 24-year-old Cottonwood resident Angel Issac Jaramillo had a valid felony warrant from the U.S. Army for desertion. Jarmillo was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to the Yavapai County Jail to await extradition.

I don't see your point @my thoughts? The article does not say he was charged with drinking in public, it just says he was picked up on the warrant. The officer responded to a citizen complaint. I suspect if the guy would not have had a warrant, he would have let them be?

I don't condone public consumption, nor desertion, nor an officer not knowing the law. Hopefully this man's attorney will be good enough to know the Az Supreme Court recently opined that municipal ordinances regulating public consumption is illegal
