CAMP VERDE - At Wednesday's regular session, the Camp Verde Town Council will possibly approve the Town's Parks and Recreation 2014 rules and regulations.

If council endorses the rules, the vote will probably not be unanimous.

Despite the council packet's recommended motion to approve, council member Robin Whatley would like to see a rule requiring dogs be on a leash when at all Town parks, recreation areas and recreation facilities. According to the proposed 2014 rules and regulations, "dogs and other animals are not allowed" at Town swimming pools and aquatic facilities.

"I know we have a leash law, but we should at least post it," said Whatley. "We need to protect our citizens and remind them that all dogs need to be on a leash. If I had small kids and we were at the park, if I saw a dog that wasn't on a leash, I'd be reluctant to return."

Leash laws, said council member Bruce George, are "big to me. I want to see it posted out there. I think that [can be] a hazard."

According to Mike Marshall, Camp Verde Parks and Recreation Coordinator, most of the Parks and Recreation's proposed 2014 rules and regulations are "common sense."

"We realized we had no [official] rules for the parks," Marshall said. "We have some sections of Town code talking about dogs or skateboarding or noise, but no rules. I knew we needed to hone that."

Marshal says he researched other municipalities' codes, such as Cottonwood, Clarkdale and Sedona, before putting together the proposed rules.

"There are new items that are not in the town code, things that were missing," Marshall said.

Wednesday's regular session will be held at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers, 473 S. Main St., room 106.
