CAMP VERDE - When Jim Sweitzer runs out of juice, flax seed or hemp, he visits Paul and Ramona Aldridge at Healthy Thymes Market on Main Street. Sweitzer, a resident of Camp Verde, has done this since the health store first opened.
Sweitzer will soon need a new plan. After spending the past eight years keeping Camp Verde in the pink, the Aldridges will close Healthy Thymes Market on Friday.
"I hate it. I really do," Sweitzer says. "[Healthy Thymes Market is] the type of business that we really need to have here. Now I'll have to go to Cottonwood [to shop]. I don't like it any more than anybody else."
Wanting to spend more time with family, Paul and Ramona spent the past year trying to sell Healthy Thymes. "We wanted someone else to take over, someone else to pick up the flame," Ramona says.
But the couple found nobody to buy their business.
Camp Verde resident Wendy Davis says she understands why Healthy Thymes is closing. But that doesn't make her any happier about it.
"This store represents wellness, peace and love," Davis says. "I'm all about wellness. I think it's horrible that this place is shutting down. Paul and Ramona are awesome. They represent to me why I live in Camp Verde."
Once the store closes, Paul plans to make himself available for local handyman work and eventually get his contractor's license.
"We've had a lot of good customers, a lot of good people in the store," Paul says. "But we're ready to do something else,"
Paul and Ramona say that Healthy Thymes could not have lasted in Camp Verde had it not been for the support of its customers.
"Our customers are in shock that we're hanging it up," Ramona says. "They don't want to [shop in] Cottonwood. They want to keep their tax dollars local. But everybody understands. We've tried to give people a good product and good service."
Paul and Ramona say that they are selling everything in the store. Fixtures, furnishings and the entire stock of the store are available.
"Business as usual, for as long as supplies last," Paul says.
Healthy Thymes Market is located at 545 S. Main St. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (928) 567-5585.
