Fire starts near Ranch House Restaurant

BEAVER CREEK -- About 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Montezuma-Rimrock Fire crews were called to the area of the Ranch House Restaurant in Lake Montezuma on a report of a wild land fire. Over an acre of light fuels had already burned and was being driven by winds of 5-10 mph.

The fire was within 25 yards of structures. A hose line was pulled and the fire knocked down as it approached buildings. Fire lines were then established to contain the fire. The fire had grown to nearly two acres before it was extinguished. Crews remained on the scene for approximately three more hours to make sure it did not rekindle.  Montezuma-Rimrock FD was assisted by crews from Camp Verde Fire District.

Investigators determined the fire was a result of grass becoming clogged in mowing equipment that was attempting to reduce fuels on the golf course.

Fire crews remind the community that the weather has been unseasonably warm and dry resulting in greater potential of fire starts. Take the time to remove any fuels on your property that would otherwise allow unwanted fire to start and spread. Any questions regarding fuel reduction can be directed to your local fire department
