CAMP VERDE - On Nov. 14, the Camp Verde Planning and Zoning Commission will hold another work session to update the Town's General Plan. This work session is open to the public.
The Commission and staff will continue to discuss how character areas relate to the plan's Land Use element, one of the 10 elements in the Town's General Plan. The Land Use element, said Community Development Director Mike Jenkins, is one of the biggest elements to the General Plan.
During the work session, staff will present several Land Use outcome scenarios utilizing the Land Use-Character Area model from the City of Globe. The Commission also discuss and possibly revise the Land Use sub-committee's recommended principals to creating character areas for the Land Use-character Area map. The Commission will also discuss and possibly arrive at a consensus for the first draft of the Land Use-Character Area with staff's proposed character area delineation.
The other elements to the Town's General Plan are: Open Space & Recreation, Growth Area, Transportation & Circulation, Water Resources, Environmental Planning, Economic Development, Housing, Cost of Development, and History & Culture.
According to Jenkins, the General Plan must be re-adopted, updated or completely re-worked by 2015.
Camp Verde, approximately 42 square miles in size, has designated 15 different land uses in its Land Use element. The Town Council must approve any amendments to the general plan. Those amendments, based on specific criteria, are categorized as either major or minor. Though an unlimited amount of minor elements may take place within the scope of a general plan, major amendments may occur once each year.
Camp Verde residents last ratified the Town's General Plan, a 10-year plan, on March 8, 2005. The Commission has tentatively planned meetings to be held through October 2014.
Thursday's General Plan work session will be held at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 473 S. Main St., room 106.
