A man from Clarkdale was killed and a Cottonwood man seriously injured when their car reportedly ran into the back of a tractor-trailer rig in Camp Verde Saturday.

According to the Camp Verde Marshal's Office, an emergency call came in around 6:22 p.m. on Nov. 2 reporting a serious accident on State Route 260 at Wendy's restaurant/Chevron near Interstate 17 (approximately milepost 218). The collision occurred in the westbound lanes.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a white Toyota sedan had collided with the tail end of a tractor-trailer.

The passenger and driver in the sedan required extraction to be freed from the vehicle.

The driver, 37-year-old Charles M. Zunitch of Clarkdale was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Daniel Thornburg, 36, of Cottonwood, was flown to John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Arthur Wozniak of Litchfield Park was uninjured.

Also responding to the scene were the Camp Verde Fire Department, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Arizona Department of Transportation, and Yavapai Apache Police Department.

The collision is still under investigation. According to the early report, driver impairment does not appear to be a factor.

I believe in reporting a story because everyone expects to read what happens in the paper. But to post a picture.....My God do you not realize how hurtful that is to our family!! My Family is in enough pain as it is..... they really do not need to relive this over and over by seeing a picture of the death of my beloved Cousin Chuck. Have some respect and a little bit of heart. Respectfully Submitted.....Dena
