COTTONWOOD - September sales tax reports show Cottonwood collected nearly nearly 12.1 percent more than the same month last year, the biggest improvement in the area this month.
They city's administrative services general manager Rudy Rodriguez said this has largely been helped by construction, which has been up all summer and is being helped by demolition that is making way for a new tractor supply store.
Retail sales have been strong and consistent since the beginning of the year, he said.
"Real estate has been doing exceptionally well," he said. "It's up 17 percent over last year at this same period of time."
Jerome sales tax collections increased by almost 6.8 percent, and Camp Verde showed a 5.2-percent increase over the same month last year.
The completion of improvements at Yavapai College has brought Clarkdale sales tax collections down to a normal level, showing a 36.6-percent decrease from September of last year. In August, this decrease was around 42 percent.
