Vehicles are believed to be the cause of separate fires on State Route 260 this week.

Twice in two days, different parts of State Route 260 had to be closed due to brush fires along the highway.

The first fire on Tuesday, June 11, was reported at 9 a.m. at milepost 224. Crews from Camp Verde Fire District and the Forest Service quickly extinguished the fire. The fire was caused by a boat trailer that lost a wheel while driving.

The second fire was reported Wednesday, June 12, at 9:30 a.m. at milepost 214, between Camp Verde and Cottonwood. This second fire was on both sides of the highway, and was approximately a quarter of an acre. A vehicle passing by the fire pulled over and used a fire extinguisher on one of the small spot fires. Camp Verde Fire District and the Forest Service were able to again quickly extinguish the fire. This fire is believed to also have been caused by a motor vehicle.

Both fires caused the highway to be shut down for approximately 30 minutes while crews worked to extinguish the flames.

CVFD is asking residents to be diligent in the actions Vegetation is extremely dry right now, and easily catches on fire.
