CAMP VERDE - Nothing goes together better than denim and lace. Except maybe funding and a new library for the Town of Camp Verde.
The Camp Verde Library Endowment and Cliff Castle Conference Center at the Lodge will sponsor the Denim and Lace Dinner and Auction fund-raiser on Saturday, April 13, at the Cliff Castle banquet rooms. Denim and Lace is held to raise money for the CVLE, which helps support library costs.
Local merchants and supporters of the library have donated more than 70 items for the live and silent auction. This year, Dr. D.G. Campbell and Louis Rezzonico will handle the auction duties.
'Building Our Dreams' is the theme of this year's Denim and Lace event. This year, Denim and Lace will honor Kay Watkins in Memoriam, for Watkins' efforts raising money for the library.
The Citizens Committee for the Camp Verde Library has partnered with the CVLE not only to raise money for library's operating costs, but also to build a new library.
Charlie German, Camp Verde Library Endowment board member and mayor-elect, will act as master of ceremonies for Denim and Lace. German says that Denim and Lace is "a quality event, with fantastic food and dessert. It is also an opportunity to make new friends, and it supports a worthy cause. We will be giving back to something bigger than ourselves.
"Also, this event keeps the community aware of how important the library is to people," German says. "The library is a safe place. It enhances the quality of life of a community.
"The library helps people who have difficulty finding a job," German says. "They can go to the library, go online, fill out applications and find a job."
"When people understand what you are trying to do," German says, "they get behind it."
Denim and Lace "makes the library more visible," says Linda Harkness, president of the CCCVL. "It is great to see the number of people in our area who support the library."
Kathy Hellman, director for the Camp Verde Library, says that she and her staff will be attending Denim and Lace. "It will be fun," Hellman says. "It will be new and exciting for all of us."
Hellman also said that some of the architectural renderings of the proposed new library will be on display at Denim and Lace.
Denim and Lace begins tomorrow at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The auction will take place at 7 p.m.
