8/10/2012 10:13:00 AM More closures scheduled on I-17
Northbound Interstate 17 just north of New River (mileposts 234-235) will be narrowed to one lane from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, through Thursday, Aug. 16, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The lane closure will provide a safe work zone for ADOT crews as they remove debris that accumulated behind a barrier wall adjacent to a slope on the left side of the highway after heavy rains last week.
The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph and brief delays are expected.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zones with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
Crews will continue paving and guardrail replacement next week on Interstate 17 between State Route 179 (Sedona turnoff) and Middle Verde Road in Camp Verde (mileposts 290-299), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Drivers can expect the following impacts next week:
Alternating lane restrictions in both directions on I-17 from 7 p.m. to noon Sunday, Aug. 12 through Friday, Aug. 17.
The northbound off-ramp from I-17 to State Route 179 will be closed from 11 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13 to noon Tuesday, Aug. 14 and from 7 p.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday, Aug. 15. Drivers headed to Sedona can take State Route 260 at Camp Verde to State Route 89A through Cottonwood.
The northbound on-ramp from State Route 179 to I-17 will be closed from 7 p.m. Wednesday to noon Thursday, Aug. 16. Drivers headed to Flagstaff from Sedona can take southbound I-17 approximately five miles to the McGuireville traffic interchange (milepost 293) to turn around and go northbound on I-17.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time to reach their destinations.
The $4.2 million improvement project includes the removal of a layer of the existing pavement, repaving the roadway, guardrail replacement and bridge repair. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.
The following late night closures and restrictions will be in place on Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction (milepost 262) next week as crews work on new bridges over the highway, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation:
Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 13-15 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., drivers on northbound I-17 will be shifted onto the off and on ramps at the Arcosanti bridge (new bridge north of existing Cordes Junction bridge).
Thursday, Aug. 16 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., I-17 will be closed intermittently up to 15 minutes at a time. Northbound traffic will also be shifted to the southbound lanes through the work zone.
Thursday, Aug. 16 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., the on-ramp from State Route 69 to northbound I-17 will be closed. Traffic will be detoured three miles south on I-17 to Bloody Basin Road (Exit 259) and then directed to turn around to northbound I-17.
Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel schedules in order to avoid the closures during these hours or allow extra time to reach their destinations.
The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/State Route 69 traffic interchange.
The work zones will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
